A lovely cottage between the vineyards in an authentic village Slap in Vipava valley or a house by the sea Savudrija

Dear Intervac members!

We are a travel-loving couple, who love to explore new places. We have grown-up kids and 4 grandchildren, who are all a world travellers and sometimes we hit the road together.

Our cottage in Slap is our second home. It is located at the end of the village, with just vineyards, orchards and hills beyond it. The house is more than a hundred years old and was our dream destination long before we bought it 16 years ago. Slap is a birth village of Tatjana's mother so a lot of her childhood memories are connected with the village and its surroundings. We have renovated the house, but preserved the charm of an old stone cottage. We spend almost all of our weekends here. Friends and family come frequently too, because they enjoy the countryside and cuisine of the area. The cottage has a lovely rose and vegetable garden, orchard, and a place to sit down and relax.

While renovating, we tried to retain the old-times-feeling, yet have added a few modern appliances to simplify everyday life. There is a stove in the kitchen, that we love to cook on, but there is also a gas stove and an electric oven, a dish-washer, and a refrigerator. We have central heating on wood and solar panels for hot water.

There is enough room to comfortably sleep five people, with additional place for another five. There are two bedrooms with double beds, a single bed on the landing which serves as our library as well, a single bed in an extra room, a bathroom with a toilet, a living room, a boiler room, a working room, and an outside toilet.

Slap village is on the Vipava valley wine route. There are a lot of wine cellars that sell good wine. White wines Pinela and Zelen originate from this region and Zelen is specific only for this region. It is very good to drink over lunch.
There is no store in the village, but there are many in Vipava, a small town three kilometres away, and many more in Ajdovščina a few minutes further away.

Slap is a great base for day-trips. Must-see are Postojna cave, Predjama castle, Idrija with mines UNESCO World Heritage, Škocjan caves UNESCO World Heritage, river Soča, and more… To bath in the see you need to drive for an hour and you'll be in Izola, Piran, or Portorož. You can visit salt pans in Sečovlje and a shell graveyard near Ankaran.

We, Marko and Tatjana, joined this internet community of home-exchangers because we love to travel, explore new places, and meet new friends. We believe that home-exchange gives us the opportunity to live in a place just like the people of that country do. It's a genuine glimpse of life in a foreign country. Tatjana is a primary school teacher and a writer. The house is full of illustrations from her books and magazine articles. Marko is a handy man. He is an electrician by profession, but is familiar with plumbing and all other installations, renovation of windows, furniture…

We have been home swapping for the past 15 years and it has been a wonderful experience every time. We have met some amazing people.

We hope you like our lovely cottage. We would like to offer it for home exchange in from April to October. Contact us! You are always welcome.

We also offer you the option of staying in a house by the sea.
The house is pleasant, with a garden, with lots of greenery.
It is located in Croatia, in Istra, 30 km from the border between Slovenia and Croatia.
It is a five-minute walk to the sea.
