A beautiful Country Home in the green and friendly midlands
an historic family home dating in part from the 1700's , this large and very comfortable family home is perfectly located in the lush, rolling midlands, 2km from a town of 25,000, with all shops and restaurants. We enjoy the benefits of country living, while having the convenience of a big town close by. The Slieve Bloom mountains are within 10km, for hiking and walking, and there are many walking and running routes locally.

Our Neighbourhood

Nearest Airport: Dublin - 80km
Rural area with beautiful woodlands and country walks on the doorstep, and our own small wood is accessible for the (slightly!) adventurous. We have a small Orchard of eating and cooking apples, and you are welcome to use them,
Within a 5 min. drive: Emo Court, a Palladian Mansion set in a huge Parkland, with walks by the lake and through mature woodlands. Resident swans and ducks are always worth stopping for! Tours of the house are available, and the estate lands are open to public.
5 min in a different direction brings you to the Castle of Dunamase ( in ruins since Cromwellian times), which was the stronghold of the High King of Leinster in the 12th Century.
Less than 5 minutes brings you into the heart of Portlaoise, the county town of 30,000, residents, with one of the youngest populations in Ireland. All shopping, restaurant and bar needs can be fulfilled here! There is also a large sports stadium for Gaelic football, where you can see a match
8 minutes brings you to Timahoe, a beautiful small village where a complete 11th Century Round Tower is the centrepiece, and where there is a small interpretive centre, and a tearooms.
15 minutes brings you to the banks of the Grand Canal in Vicarstown, where you can walk the green towpaths of the canal, or hire a barge to meander slowly for the day,, enjoying the calm and peaceful countryside. Also a great small tea/coffee shop with picnic benches outside.
Dublin is an easy 1 hour drive away,, and the busy medieval city of Kikenny is 40 minutes drive.
