Groningen is the most important city in the northern part of the Netherlands. It has 200.000 inh., a beautiful old city-centre and a world-famous museum of modern art.
End of August there is a very nice cultural festival (Noorderzon) with lots of music and theatre.
In the surroundings you can find lakes, forests, the Wadden-islands and beautiful agricultural landscapes of the provinces Groningen and Friesland.
We live in the centre of Groningen, just 3 min. walking to the main market-square.
It is easy to take a bus to the station or try one of our bicycles! It is very safe to cycle in Groningen.
In the province you can visit several beautiful small villages like Winsum, Eenrum, Appingedam and Pieterburen.
From Pieterburen you can do 'mudflat-hiking', even to Schiermonnikoog.
From / to Amsterdam (Schiphol airport) there are direct trains (about 2 - 2,5 hrs.).
The Netherlands is more than only Amsterdam. You could visit Amsterdam and stay in Groningen afterwards to experience the Netherlands as it really is!

About Our Family
We retired from a lifelong career in teaching (Wiepke 70 and Kor 66). Our two daughters live in Driebergen (NL) and London.
We like to travel and have seen a lot of the world, but there are always nice countries and more cities to visit.
We are since long Intervac-members and we were never disappointed.
One of our daughters lives/works in London.
We like to visit her on a regular basis, so an exchange with London (or surroundings) would be welcome any time of the year.
Voor korte schoolvakanties, lange weekeinden staan we open voor alle voorstellen, ook binnen Nederland.
We are also interested in (short) exchanges with European cities (Hamburg, Berlin, Wien, Paris etc.),
long weekends or schoolholidays.
Lifestyle
We are real travellers. When we were younger we loved to cycle (longer trips from six weeks to yes, up to 1 year : Holland - Egypt - Holland).
With our two daughters we backpacked a lot in Asia and Australia.
Now we travel together and since we are retired we are quite flexible in our plans.
We don't drive a car and use public transport everywhere. Most of the times we'll manage quite well, some times we book a short organized tour to get to the touristic highlights.

US51212Absolutely wonderful people and absolutely exceptional experience. Groningen was a wonderful walkable town with lots to do, shop, eat, theatre, museums, just lovely. We loved our hosts and their home and it was truly hard to leave. I would highly, highly recommend this exchange to anyone. New Year's Eve was so special seeing the rooftop fireworks from our exchange hosts' home. They were always available by WhatsApp to answer any questions and checked in on our needs. Also, they shared their knitting needles and yarns with my daughter Quinn which was so thoughtful. Beautiful, beautiful spacious home which is a destination unto itself. It was so tranquil and gave us the rest and relaxation that we were craving, but the city was just steps away, everything in walkable distance, we never used a car or public transportation with exception to come and go from the airport in Amsterdam.

Boxtel, Netherlands
NL9473Prachtig huis, fraai ingericht, prima parkeergelegenheid, 5 minuten lopen van de historische binnenstad van Groningen

TUNBRIDGE WELLS Kent, Great Britain
GBSE004978We loved the house in Groningen, really comfortable. It is very well situated for the town and all that it has to offer. Attractions, parks, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants are all close at hand. We were made very welcome at the local Parkrun - a UK export of a free 5 km run.
And we really enjoyed being able to cycle around the local countryside too.

Bembridge, Great Britain
GB091943The house is perfectly described in the listing. It is very important that the photos give every possible view of the house internally and externally. We have rejected many offers, in the past, because the photos did not give enough information.
The family were as listed. We had good communications on the build up to the exchange - not to detailed but cordial and helpful.

Zeist, Netherlands
NL7976A very comfortable and well-eqipped house, very convenient for central Groningen.

South Croydon, Great Britain
GB091546A delightful couple with whom we had lots of communication before the exchange. The house was quirky in a very interesting way. The position of the home was ideal for exploring Groningen and we made extensive use of opportunities to cycle. It was great to meet Kor and Wiepke at the start of the exchange. We warmly recommend this exchange partner.
